I have been learning to fall in love with my kinky coily curls ever since deciding to go natural in 2012. I've definitely hit a few bumps throughout this journey which involved perming/chopping my hair off due overwhelming frustration. But I have come to acknowledge that my frustration was insinuated by my HATRED for my hair. Oftentimes, I'd wish my hair was as silky smooth like many other latinas I've encountered in my life. My hair made me feel ugly. However, over the past few years I have been learning to love everything I hate about myself. I constantly have to remind myself that flowers don't bloom overnight. Seasons must come and go, and during that time you must practice the art of patience. Since I've been trying to find cute summer looks to style my natural hair, I thought I'd go for a fresh sleek messy bun. This look will definitely be a go-to this summer, and has made me feel a bit more glamorous. Below, I have listed the steps to achieve this look. All products are linked below, but feel free to use whats best for your hair-type and texture!

SLEEK KINKY CURLY BUN
1. Proceed to shampoo or co-wash your hair with your favorite product
* I used Garnier Fructis' CURL NOURISH Fortifying shampoo and co-washed with ASIAM Coconut Cowash *
2. Detangle your hair from ends to root to prevent excessive breakage
3. Seal in the moisture with an oil of your choice. I love olive oil because it adds lot of shine to my curls and keeps them looking fresh throughout the day. For this style, I used Palmer's Conditioning Spray Oil.
4. Next, part your hair in the middle or to the side and add EcoStyler Gel for maximum hold. Style your edges as desired and tie hair in a low ponytail
5. If your ponytail is dry, moisturize with your favorite products and add gel to define the curls.
6. With a new hair tie, scrunch up the ponytail in your hands and create a loose bun.
7. Release some curls, to add dimension to the bun and create a fresh look.
